Your thoughts...Oh Wait...You don't think...

What's going on with America these days? As a staunch Bush supporter and a government employee, I'm down with what's going on for the most part in Iraq and abroad. I think that the media is raping the public. Why is there such a big deal being made about us losing 2,000 military members over there? Is there a draft that I missed? Are we forcing our young men and women into military service at gun point, with the threat of killing their families, or freezing their assets? No. The last time I checked we were still functioning with a voluntary military. Did I miss something? America is the best, most powerful nation on the planet. Yet, our people feel the need to not be supportive of our policies. I can't think of a nobler way to die than on a foreign field in defense of our nation.
I'll be the first to say that I'm not a fan of the gas and oil prices, but if you think about this as a transitionary period it wouldn't be so bad. We should bite the bullet and wait for it to pass. Why is it that we care about the opinions of people who've never worn a uniform? They've never felt the comraderie of being in a unit or squadron. The sense of accomplishment of graduating from some type of boot camp or basic training. They've never been on the other side yet their efforts to sow dissent are succeeding.
How demoralizing to be a troop in Iraq right now. Just think if you were some 18-25 year old white kid from somewhere in the MidWest and you joined the Marine Corps right after High School and after boot camp get sent to a unit and ship out to Iraq. The last thing you see on the news before leaving the States, is some group of snotty rich kids at some college you couldn't even park your car at, rallying against the cause you're willing to die for so your family can maintain their way of life. Your folks, by the way, are 5th generation corn farmers. You're willing to die so your folks can continue growing corn that those rich kids are probably eating, not to mention the ideals and traditions that you are upholding of the nation and then the storied battle history of the Corps. That is a lot of pressure to put on a kid with no college who's never been outside his county, oh wait, by the way you're going to be mortared every night, shot at, and people who hate you with every fiber in their smelly little bodies will do anything to kill you.

Here's a thought; Has it ever occured to the American people that if the Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, and Coasties weren't doing what they're doing, they would have to do it? Also, the quality of life that Americans enjoy is only the way it is because of our military and will continue because of our military strength and our quickness to employ it.
